This place USED to be decent and I liked their shakes. The service was always poor, though. Well today we went in because I had a taste for their shakes and Philly Steak...and boy do I REGRET it. The service was despicable. The cashier was walking around in shorts and had the ugliest attitude and expression. She was obviously miserable to be working there, and had no qualms about showing it. The food - Historically awful. The cherry shake I ordered tasted like bleach mixed with Robitussin cough syrup. I left it there and informed them that it tasted awful. We took our food home to eat...and it was dreadfully terrible. Poor quality ingredients, dry, un-flavorful. My daughter said her burger tasted equivalent to that of her high school food. I am completely disgusted with my overall experience, and will obviously never be going back to that AWFUL place!!

I remember coming to Premo's as a child with my family and we would get so excited about getting "eyeball ice cream." Now as an adult, my sister and I came in here for nostalgia purposes. We were immediately reminded of how wonderful Premo's is and we were so excited to see that they still put eyes on their ice cream! Their custard is creamy and delicious with a wide variety of dipping options. They will literally cover your entire custard in sprinkles upon request. AWESOME! Great place to bring your friends, family, or even a date.

This place is great and I am a self-proclaimed ice cream snob. I love ice cream and always spoil myself once a week. Recently, my boyfriend and I were driving home from his parent's house in Mokena. We were driving along and thinking about where to get ice cream and I remembered Premo's. Not sure why I did, but I am glad I thought of it. Yes, it was out of our way but I really wanted to go somewhere locally owned that we haven't been a million times in the last year or two. Dan ordered a shake with banana and peanut butter and I got a blizzard type thing with snickers and the twist soft serve. At first, Dan's shake tasted strange but after a few sips, it was awesome. My tasted great and the service here is wonderful. The tip jar at the window (for ice cream only orders, I think) had the names of each employee and their future career or college major. What a neat little personal touch! Skip baskin robbins and come here! We didn't have any food but would definitely come back for food sometimes.

Absolutely love it! Their service is always quick & with a smile & their dipped cones are to die for! The portions are great too and moderately priced. Definitely the place to go when you're craving a good soft serve cone. There is a middle aged man whose always working there, he is so friendly and genuine. I LOVE PREMOS! :)

Love it. Great ice cream, good food and an Oak Lawn staple. Wish they had posted hours, though. They have been closed during normal business hours about 30% of the times I've gone there hoping to get a campfire shake. Love the food, service and nostalgia-how about some consistency?

I'm going to start by saying I have only had their ice cream so this review is purely for that. I love the ice cream here! They have so many options! Vanilla chocolate swirl dipped in peanut butter is divine! In fact you can dip your soft serve ice cream in pretty much anything. Their sundaes are fantastic. I love nice, creamy ice cream, but soft serve done right is very delicious. Based on what I have gotten so far I believe Premo's is better than Dairy Queen. I will definitely come back anytime I am in need of sweet treat.

When I moved to Mount Greenwood over a year ago my friend made me a list of places to go to, Premo's made the list. I had been trying a bunch of different ice cream places around town to find what was my favorite. I love a good old fashioned soft serve ice cream joint! It was the perfect place to visit in the middle of the summer for a chocolate and vanilla twist dipped in chocolate. Also, if I would have just gone for the twist and not the dip, they would have put candy eyes on the ice cream which brings me back to my childhood. Hopefully sometime soon I'll be back to try the food along with the ice cream.

Great atmosphere, great food/ice cream, drinks and has been around for decades, I recommend. Clean and friendly staff, cheap to moderate prices.

Local favorite ice cream shop! Premos has been around for a long time. I love their dipped cones and shakes. Every now and again their ice cream tastes a bit sour, but majority of the time that is not an issue! Sour or not I keep going back.

Premo's is SO Oak Lawn. Everyone and their moms come here. I'm pretty sure Premo's has been around forever. I remember when it was only open during the summer. Then all of a sudden, they turned into a year-round establishment and I would bet that it's working pretty well for them. Premo's is hoppin' and happenin' in the summer. Lines out the door and down the street. Parking is always hard to find and you'll have to park down the block and walk it. But it's good exercise before you indulge on some sweet soft serve. They have chocolate, vanilla, and choco-nilla swirl. I love that they put little sugar eyes on it. Who doesn't want their ice cream watching them as you lick it to death? They do have food, though I've never had any. It does smell awesome and maybe sometime I'll get me some. But for now, the ice cream is enough for me to be happy.

Premo's is on par with the Sugar Shack on 26th with the Sugar Shack getting the slight nod for a being a bit more tasty, having lower prices and offering coupons. Premo's is in the ballpark, however. My wife and I wanted a funnel cake and didn't want to drive halfway across town to get one. Thankfully we saw a sign at Premo's that they were now selling Funnel Cake Sundaes so we stopped in and grabbed one!! The funnel cake was a nice size but a bit heavier (bready) than the ones at Sugar Shack, which are lighter and airy. For a little over $8 you get one wet and one dry topping, ice cream, whipped cream, nuts and cherries. We like the fact that Premo's is in our neighborhood, has a parking lot, has plenty of street parking and has places to sit down and eat inside and outside. It was really nice to go out for ice cream and not having to worry about trying to find a parking space, police and traffic management officers circling like sharks trying to write parking tickets, paying meters or any of that nonsense. We're glad we found this place!

Great treat last night.. Dropped in for a bite to eat, and of course to grab a sweet treat. I ordered Premo's pork tenderloin sandwich, a side of greek potatoes and a banana shake to wash it down. I was weak. I gave in and drank my shake first (sorry mom I know you taught me to eat my food first then dessert, but I just couldn't stop once i started sipping) Big mistake, for two reasons. First, what could have been a great sandwich, turned into an below average sandwich, in my opinion. The pork tenderloin was lightly breaded and still a bit crispy. The pork was actually pretty good, but the bun was you plain run of the mill hamburger bun. Unfortunately, the bun didnt hold up long and the mayo and tomato turned into a soggy mess. I ate about a quarter of the sandwich and ditched the bread and finished the pork all by itself. I guess the sandwich was designed to be eaten right away.. Ooops! The second reason I should have waited... Any sandwich offered cannot stand up to a shake, or ice cream treat from Premo's. They are just too good! You are bound to be disappointed. Next time I come here for lunch or dinner, I will be sure to hold off on ordering dessert until I am finished with my food. Lessoned learned (thanks mom)..

YUM! seriously! bad food that tastes SOOOOOOOOOOO good. Typical burger and shake place. They even put eye balls on your soft serve! Never been here until this year. Definitely reasonably priced and will satisfy your junk food craving! P.S the philly steak and cheese thingy is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo good!

BEST soft serve on the south side? I'm not sure. That's a pretty bold statement. I will say we enjoyed our twist cone with twinkle sprinkles and chocolate cone with cotton candy sprinkles. The service was friendly and the menu was huge! This place is within walking distance for us now so I'm sure it will be one of our favorite spots this Summer. I wouldn't mind trying a burger next time...

I love Premos....what I don't like is their unusual hours. Went for lunch a few weeks ago around 2:30, closed....then again tonite, a hot Sunday evening at 8 pm...closed...make up your mind. The hours posted online say 11.am to 10 pm after Memorial Day. I guess that's why there are no hours posted on the door, this way you can close when you want. Keep it up Premos and your loyal customers will drive to Plush horse or cold stone.

I love Premo's. I've been coming here for years. I just moved down the street and now can walk there. I wish there were more workers because sometimes it's so slow but worth it. Def need another picnic bench.

This place has my FAVORITE ice cream ever. There is just something rich and creamy about it.....if only I lived closer!

I am admittedly kind of a grouchy ass curmudgeon sometimes. No, no - it's true, it's true. In my own defense, I haven't had a good night's sleep in...ever, so maybe that's a part of it. But even at my most hot and curmudgeonly state of maternal agitation ("NO! Get back in the car seat or NO ice cream! Don't write on Mama's hair! No, you cannot get a tattoo, until you can afford to pay for it."), I find this place pretty fricking awesomely adorable. They put little candy eyes on the soft serve ice cream cones - I mean, what could be more irresistible that candy googly eyes on an ice cream cone? Seriously, nothing. And it is an excellent tool to use to bribe small and not-so-small-anymore children with (but I only endorse this if they are your children or you have borrowed them in an authorized manner.) This kind of sweetness can make the world go around. And they have sprinkles called "twinkle sprinkles" that is a mix of rainbow sprinkles and crushed peanut brittle. Awwwww... The best part is that even though they offer a whole bunch of cuteness, it's all pretty much housed in a tiny dive-looking hot dog/junk food stand (next to a mural of penguins eating ice cream cones). The large soft serve is about $2 (chocolate, vanilla or swirl) and is massive and very creamy. They will char your dog, they chili is decent and, although I haven't tried it yet, they have a fried pork tenderloin sandwich that I've never officially seen or tasted, only heard about, and I think is usually in Indiana, so I'm intrigued. And - the kicker - "frachos" fries (like McDonald's style) with nacho stuff on em - chili, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes, onions and jalapeno peppers. Sweet. Cash only, but very reasonably priced. Right off of busy 95th Street. A quiet break from my hectic life. ("Don't make me stop this car! No put ice cream in Mama hair! No, you cannot get a tattoo, I don't care if you have enough money to pay for it.")

Great neighborhood spot, good food and great soft serve. Horrible customer service, however. I don't appreciate getting sneered and scoffed at every time I walk in just to order my twinkle cone...

This review isnt for the ice cream as I havent tried it. After waiting in a line I find out they dont take debit cards. Huh? When this joint decides to join the 21st Century I may try em out, til then Andys Custard recently opened and not only are they in the present unlike Premos, their custard matches Culvers!

Every time that we take a trip to the southside to visit Mom, we have to stop on the way home at Premo's. Premo's has the most delicious vanilla and chocolate soft serve ice cream around. It puts Dairy Queen to shame and you pay about half of what Dairy Queen charges for their cones. The cones are always fresh and the ice cream is soooooo creamy. Five stars to Premo's.

This was my first time to Premo's and to Oak Lawn. After stuffing ourselves at Palermo's, we need to wash it down with something sweet and spotted Premo's. Premo's is one of those places that looks like it has been around forever. We all had the Soft Serve Ice Cream Twist Cone. It was very good (not like the soft serve that McDonalds sells). They even put "eyes" on the ice cream. They will also dip it in sprinkles or flavored syrup. If I wasn't so full, I would have tried on of the Sundaes.

    (4)
  • Piper O.

Good ice cream. Sundae pricing is odd. Today, I asked for a small hot fudge sundae, the girl said they only have a large hot fudge sundae. I saw the sundae examples above the counter, Small and Large, showing the size difference. I said well can't you make the hot fudge sundae in one of the smaller sundae containers? She said I'd have to charge you the Large size price. So, hot fudge sundaes only belong in the large containers? The same ingredients won't be compatible with the smaller container? It doesn't make sense to offer 2 different sizes of sundaes and then say "Nah, you can only have the biggest."

I've been going to Premo's my entire life! They have the best soft serve ice cream around! Their cones, sundaes, Premo bars, soooooo yummy! Bring your friends, kids, grandparents--this place is great! They've also got a great selection of food too--burgers, dogs, chicken sandwiches, etc.

I just had the best taco and then topped it off with a wonderful butterscotch sundae. I am a happy woman. The taco meat was perfectly seasoned.

My wife used to work at Premo's when she was a teenager, and had always talked fondly about how good the ice cream was. I've been there twice and think it's a good neighborhood spot, but probably not quite a destination worthy of a special trip. The "twinkle cone" is what everyone remembers and talks about; it's an ice cream cone dipped in sprinkels and peanuts. I have to admit, it's pretty good, but come on -- it's not that original! I've never had the food, but anticipate it's typical for a drive in: hamburgers, hot dogs, fries and pizza puffs. I would go back again if I were in the area or at my in-laws house in Oak Lawn.

This is the best soft serve I have ever had. It is so smooth and creamy. Yes they have eyes, but it's like the cake bunny at Easter. You get to cut the head off first. I used to help out a friend at a ice cream shop on western. She would always ask me to take some home and I would tell her I was on a diet. On the way home I would stop here. RUDE! I haven't tried the food yet, but I will always go back for the cones.

Absolutely the best soft-serve ice cream on the south side. You can literally feel the fat molecules on your tongue as you eat it. I prefer the dipped cones. Take a break from frozen yogurt that looks like soft serve. There is no comparison to any other soft-serve.

  • Christy K.

They used to have great food. They must be under new management. They should really just stick to ice cream now. I gave it 3 stars, but only for the ice cream. If was it was only the food, it would be 1 or 2.

Whether it's creative milkshakes or other tasty frozen treat, Premo's is one of my favorite places in Oak Lawn. Plus, the food is great too! I had a Philly Cheese-Steak / Hamburger combo that really surprised me. And the frachos (fries / nachos) are a creative combo too. Plus, everyone there has always treated me and my family very well. If you're looking for the old-time diner feel with quality food and a charming atmosphere, this is the place to be!

Best soft serve ice cream on the southside. Unfortunately...cash only. Long lines in the summer, but worth the wait.

So we're down on the southwest side, having another 4 p.m. dinner with my husband's grandparents and parents. And ice cream came up. My husband decides that he is in need of some soft serve, and down the street to Premo's he goes. With him, the nostalgia factor is through the roof, but I'd never been there before. And I'm pleased to say I enjoyed it as much as he did. The place is small, with a few counter seats if you simply must eat indoors and some benches and a picnic table outside. And it's cash only. While they're clearly known for their ice cream creations, you can also get burgers, fries, pizza puffs, dogs, tamales, the usual assortment of fried foods. But we were there for some ice cream. So I selected a Twix "concrete" or whatever it was called (you know, the Blizzard variation) and the husband got this huge waffle cone with sprinkles and nuts and whatnot. The ice cream was creamy and delicious, with plenty of chunks of Twix throughout, and a small was plenty -- I sorta wished for a mini version, but gee, somehow I managed to finish it. We enjoyed the lovely evening air while looking at the penguins and savoring our inexpensive and delightful ice cream treats.

It's a great neighborhood place, friendly staff, excellent food nice place to take the family for ice cream cash only but won't hurt your wallet! Gets extremely busy in the summer but very worth the wait in line! Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

    (4)
  • Sylvia T.

I don't really understand why there is a line out the door some days for this place, the icecream is good but nothing to stand in line squished in between sweaty overweight people for. However, it's tasty. Can't complain. I can see how it can become a family tradition for people who have lived in the area for a long time. Haven't tried the food, just the icecream.

This little shanty houses one of the best chocolate malts I've ever had in the middle of winter! Its not much to look at, but under the white and purple exterior belies soft serve nirvana. After filling our guts with greasy pizza goodness, we thought the next logical food item would be frozen custard! I'll admit - I was disappointed that there wasn't any custard or ice cream to be had here outside of soft serve, but as soon as my hissy fit was over and I took a sip of the choco malt I was completely sated. You can't screw up a malt really, but finding one when its snowing out is a gem in my book! Yummy!

  • M M.

So I finally sampled some of Premo's lunch/dinner options when stuck at work late one evening and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I got the standard Premo Burger, which was cooked to order and provided a nice juicy, and very flavorful peice of meat. Even the cheese, while still just standard American, appeared to be of a better quality. The fries were a little bland, but the burger more than made up for it. So there you go, absolutely perfect soft serve and some fairly tasty fast food burgers. Premo's is wonderful.
